Data analyst resume example (2026) with keywords

Updated · 6 min read

A data analyst resume should prove three things fast: you can query and clean data (SQL, Python or R, Excel), you can show it clearly (Tableau, Power BI), and your analysis changed a decision. Name the tools exactly as the job post does, and give every bullet a business result, not just a dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

What should a data analyst put on a resume with no experience?

Lead with a projects section: two or three analyses of real public datasets, each naming the tools (SQL, Excel, Tableau) and the question you answered. Add relevant coursework or a certificate, and any job where you worked with numbers, even in retail or operations.

Is Python required for a data analyst resume?

Not always. Many analyst roles need SQL, Excel and a BI tool, with Python or R listed as preferred. Check the post: if Python is a requirement, show it in a bullet; if it is a nice-to-have, list it only if you can use it.

Which certifications help a data analyst resume?

The Google Data Analytics certificate and Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300) are common at entry level, and Tableau certifications help for Tableau-heavy roles. They support a resume but do not replace evidence of real analysis.
